Ipad Killer from Toshiba – Toshiba Folio

The Folio 100, Toshiba’s entry into the tablet race at the Internationale Funkaustellung (IFA) trade show in Berlin, comes with Android version 2.2 like the competition, but the company has opted for a larger 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen.

The larger screen size comes at a cost — the Folio 100 weighs 760 grams, compared to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which has a 7-inch screen and weighs 380 grams. It will be up to consumers to choose between screen size and portability.

The Folio 100 measures 28 centimeters by 18 cm by 1.4 cm. It has an Nvidia Tegra 2-processor and 16GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded using an SD card.

The battery should last for up to seven hours, as long as the tablet is used primarily for Web browsing.

The list of preinstalled software includes the Opera Web browser and Fring, an application that in combination with the embedded 1.3-megapixel webcam allows users to make video calls, according to Toshiba.

The use of Android version 2.2 adds support for Flash 10.1. At first, the Folio 100 will access the Internet using Wi-Fi, including 802.11n. But it will also be equipped with 3G soon, according to Toshiba.

The tablet has also been equipped with Toshiba’s own marketplace, which will include music, applications and radio channels.

The Folio 100 will be available during the fourth quarter of 2010 throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Wi-Fi version will cost about €399 (US$510).

The Video Whiteboard Interface interprets the data and outputs high definition DVI-D or HDMI (HDMI with cable adapter) digital video and high definition YPbPr analog component video at resolutions of 720p/59.94Hz and 720p/50Hz (higher resolutions are planned for future releases), or standard definition video at 480i/29.97Hz and 576i/25Hz.

The Video Whiteboard includes the Video Whiteboard Quick-Connect, one black marker, one marker sleeve and one electronic eraser.

Cisco Cius Tablet – Future of Enterprise VideoConferencing

Cisco Systems Inc is launching a tablet computing device aimed at business customers, becoming the latest company to wade into the red-hot tablet market.

The networking equipment maker unveiled the Cius on Tuesday, a lightweight, 7-inch tablet based on Google Inc’s Android operating system.

Cisco is pitching the Cius, which will work over both short-range WiFi and high-speed mobile wireless networks, as a collaboration and communication device for enterprises.

The Cius offers portable video conferencing, access to a users’ desktop computer, email messaging and Web browsing, along with applications designed for the Android platform.

Apple Inc essentially created the tablet market with the successful launch of the iPad in April and a slew of tablet devices are hitting the market this year from companies such as Dell Inc and Toshiba Corp.

Cisco Cius is running Android  -and therefore you have full access to 50,000 Android Market applications.

The most important thing point about the Cius, however, is that it’s got a Cisco label on it.  Which means it’s most, most welcome in enterprise.  Nobody ever got shot for buying Cisco.  There will be a considerable number of CIOs who will relax and smile during the product evaluation discussions between iPad, various other Android tablets and the Cius.  Not only have you got the backing of the global connectivity giant that is Cisco, you’ve also got the ability to access products and services from the Android market.  Or, to put it another way, you can get your in-house development team to start developing custom applications and services for your Cius estate using industry standard and easily accessible technology.

New Apple Iphone 4

New Iphone from Apples will soon appear on the market. One of the most exciting features is what Apple calls FaceTime.

Apple Iphone now has a video conference camera, with standard VGA resolution. This camera will be used with third-party applications, as well as Apple’s own video conference solution.

The videocalling will work over Wi-Fi initially and this will change the way people are using VideoConference and VideoCalls…

Sonos – Wireless Sound System

If you haven’t heard about Sonos in the past the best way to describe it is that it’s a music system that allows you to connect up to 42 zones, allowing you to play music throughout your house from a central music collection – stored on a computer or a NAS drive connected to your network.

Designed around the impression of a single speaker, the unit actually has a 5-driver speaker system, including two tweeters, two mid-range drivers and a built-in subwoofer.

Coming in white and silver, like other elements in the Sonos range, the silver speaker grill “is” the front of the unit and the only controls to be found are the volume up and down and mute button on the top. It’s super easy to set up; the iPhone app discovers any Sonos hardware, which you name and then have access to from the main menu. You choose music, either from a location on the network (like a computer, or in my case an Apple Time Capsule) or from streaming services like Pandora, Napster and Last.FM.
